It is with great sadness, we inform of the passing of Ian Devereux. Ian passed away 25 April 2020. As most of you know, Ian was the founder of Rocklabs, our Sample Preparation business which was purchased by Scott in 2008.
Scientist turned businessman Ian was described as one of the export "Vikings" of the 1970s, 80s and 2000s who led New Zealand's expansion as an export nation. Devereux's Rocklabs was a company ahead of its time when it was founded in 1969 with its business model premised on being number one in a global niche- scientific rock-testing instruments for the mining industry. We are grateful for Ian’s pioneering spirit, and the enduring legacy that will continue to inspire new innovations in sample preparation for many years to come.
Even after Ian sold Rocklabs, he remained in a close friend and mentor to many of us, and remains an industry icon. We were extremely lucky that Ian was able to play an important part in our Rocklabs 50 Year celebration last year, where he was on hand to share some of his many great stories with our Auckland team.
Our thoughts go out to Ian’s wife Rosie, his daughters, and his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
